From Toptenreviews by Angie Parkinson
PROS / This Aicok ice cream maker was the only machine we reviewed to make store-bought consistency ice cream straight from the machine.
VERDICT / The Aicok is a compact machine perfect for quickly making ice cream for small groups.
With a stronger-than-average warranty, a relatively low price, and the fastest ice cream making time in our review, this Aicok ice cream maker BL1500C has earned our Top Ten Reviews Silver Award. It is a great addition for anyone looking to make ice cream batches for small groups. However, if there is a problem with your machine, the only way to contact the company is through email.
Today’s modern ice cream makers have done away with ice, rock salt and hand cranking to give way to a simpler freezer bowl method. The Aicok ice cream maker utilizes this feature in the best way by guaranteeing the fastest ice cream making time of 20 minutes or less without the need to clean up rock salt and ice afterward. The second fastest ice cream maker also has a 1.5-quart capacity and takes 30 minutes to make this frozen treat.
When you begin making ice cream, the instruction manual indicates that you should add the cream into the bowl before attaching the lid and paddle. However, we discovered that if we didn’t have the paddle spinning from the beginning the ice cream would start to freeze to the bowl’s walls. This can cause the cream to freeze into a hard block, which then puts strain on the paddle and motor. Too much strain or repeated strain can lead these components to eventually break, so we recommend having the paddle on and spinning when the cream is added. When we tested the ice cream maker, we noticed that the opening was narrow and the plastic edges on either side made it difficult to pour the cream into the freezer bowl. Make sure you have a decent spout when dumping the cream inside; otherwise you might find yourself spilling it down the front of the machine.
During the mixing process, the paddle pulled some of the ice cream outside of the bowl and left it resting on the bowl’s ledge. However, when the timer sounded and we removed the lid, we discovered ice cream that was very close to store-bought consistency due to its hardness and creaminess. There was no need to place the ice cream in the freezer when the machine stopped – it was already at a perfect thickness for eating. This was the only ice cream maker to accomplish this feat.
It can be hard to pull the freezer bowl out of the machine’s base. Fortunately, a plastic ring with handles can be placed around the freezer bowl to help pull it out when the machine has finished its work.
Prep & Cleanup
The removable parts of this ice cream maker are not dishwasher safe so you have to wash them by hand. The motor and timer combo clicks out of the lid at the press of a button, making the machine easier and safer to clean. We were baffled that the paddle comes in two parts, but this odd design doesn’t add any significant cleaning time. All in all, cleanup should only take a few minutes at most.
While hand cranking ice cream can be a fun nostalgic activity, it can also get old fast. Luckily, this electrical ice cream maker operates at the turn of a switch so your arms can relax while the machine does all the work. It also happens to be one of the smallest and lightest ice cream makers in our review so you won’t have to clear a ton of space on your counter top to make way for it. It also comes with nine recipes specifically designed for the Aicok to get you started.
Warranty & Support
Should you encounter any problems with your device, Aicok’s warranty lasts for two years, which is longer than most other machines we tested. The company can be reached by email but not by telephone. When we tested the email services, we received a polite response to our questions within two business days.
Aicok’s ice cream maker allowed us to make ice cream at a consistency similar to the store-bought treat. Being easy to clean and having a two-year warranty makes this machine a great option for those wanting to make small batches of ice cream. However, if you are wanting to feed a large group, you might want to consider finding a machine with a larger capacity.
